The Fundamentals
Landing
- Even when experienced at Parkour, drilling the fundamentals are still very important. jump
off a small wall to practise your landings.
- As you jump look down to spot where your landing will be. As you jump
upwards (not straight down) you start to bring his knees up towards his chest.
- The reason for bringing the knees up to your chest is that it helps you make
sure your posture is right and ready for landing. The knees are bent in readiness for the impact where you should almost
bounce out of the landing.
- bring your hands up to both stabilise his posture and to prepare to slap the
floor upon impact.
- you should lands on the toes/ball area of the foot. As soon as your feet make
contact with the ground your knees should bend deeply into the landing and his hands slap the floor.
When done simultaneously all of the shock is taken out of the jump and re-directed.
*Note - you should only ever execute
this kind of landing if dropping directly down from an obstacle. If you was actually moving forwards while
jumping, you should go into a landing roll.
Roll
- first bend your knees a little bit in prep for the roll
- slap your hands on the floor and roll over your right or left shoulder
- if you roll correctly you should be as quick as getting up as you were to get down because of the
momentum
Speed vault
- approach the wall/rail as if doing a one handed vault
- put your body sideways and jump high as if stepping over the obstacle
- when almost cleared you should propel the rest of your body forward with your hand
- land and continue your run
